Vibrio related necrotizing fasciitis is an uncommon condition with high mortality rates. Recent studies mainly report Vibrio vulnificus-related necrotizing fasciitis due to handling and ingesting marine wildlife. We report a rare occurrence of fatal, necrotizing fasciitis in a 57 year-old man caused by ingestion of V. cholera rather than wound exposure. Bactaeremic necrotizing fasciitis due to V. cholera should be considered in those living near coastal regions, especially in patients with immunocompromised conditions, diabetes mellitus and chronic liver diseases. Education of physicians and coastal inhabitants, early initiation of antibiotics and surgical debridement are essential in controlling Vibrio infections.
