Driving under the influence of a sudden onset of acute heart disease is one of the most important causes of traffic accidents. Reducing the risk of acute heart disease is also an important factor in reducing the occurrence of traffic accidents. Long-term exposure to high concentrations of air pollutants is known to cause an increase in acute heart disease, but whether short-term exposure increases the risk of acute heart disease remains to be clarified. However, more and more studies have found that short-term exposure to environmental particulate matter can induce the occurrence of acute heart disease. Acute heart disease, including acute myocardial infarction and acute decompensated heart failure, caused by exposure to environmental particulate matter (PM) and air pollutants is positively correlated with regional air pollution severity and individual exposure. The unusual epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has significantly improved the air pollution quality in areas affected by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Therefore, this study aimed to confirm whether short-term exposure to air pollutants in areas with different air pollution severity in Taiwan increases the risk of acute cardiac events. Next, this study attempted to understand the impact of the CVID-19 pandemic lockdown on environmental particulate matter exposure and the risk of acute heart disease in Taiwan.
