Purpose:
Firefighters often face serious trauma or death incidents in their work, and when confronted with moral dilemmas, they typically rely on experience and principles to make decisions. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether firefighters' personality traits are correlated with their moral decision-making in moral dilemmas involving injury cues.
    二、Design:
Participants were randomly assigned to an injury cue group and a control group. Demographic characteristics of firefighters and their empathy traits (IRI) were collected. Medical and non-medical scenarios were designed for moral dilemmas to analyze factors influencing injury decision-making.
    三、Results:
1.The main effects of injury cues on pain sensitivity were significant, as well as the main effect of years of service.
2.There was a significant correlation between emotional empathy and cognitive empathy scores, consistent with previous research, validating the empathy (IRI) trait questionnaire.
3.Cognitive empathy scores showed a significant positive correlation with injury decision-making, while emotional empathy did not, indicating that cognitive and emotional empathy have opposite moderating effects on injury decision-making, consistent with past literature findings.
4.The significant association between firefighters' empathy traits and injury decision-making was observed only in medical scenarios, not in non-medical scenarios.
5.There was an interaction between years of service and empathy traits under injury cues regarding the proportion of injury decision-making in medical scenarios.
    四、Conclusion:
This study validates the professionalism of frontline emergency personnel. Even firefighters with less than 10 years of experience and low cognitive empathy traits exhibited lower group-oriented decision-making in non-injury cue scenarios. However, under injury cues, their decision-making level did not differ from other groups. This implies that at the scene of disasters filled with injury cues, our professional emergency responders demonstrate consistent professional injury decision-making behavior.
