Non-obese diabetic mice (NOD mice) were animal model of the type I diabetes mellitus, but still faces many problems, such as could not accurately track the incidence of diabetes duration. In order to solve this problem, we had successfully developed a NOD/reporter mice which were specific expression reporter on the islet cells surface. NOD/reporter mice could use specific optical probe to assess the delivery of cells by optical imaging system in vivo. Herein, we showed that pathology and physiology of NOD/reporter mice were similar to wild-type NOD mice. Additionally, we also confirmed the islet β cell expressed reporter do not influence the function of secreting insulin. Therefore, NOD/reporter mice can help researchers easily tracing the disease progression of type I diabetes mellitus by noninvasive imaging systems.
