Background: The purposes of this study are to explore the model fit of psychometric testing for Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness in Indonesian version, explore the construct validity of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale in Indonesian version and investigate the relationship between demographic, clinical and psychosocial factor and internalized stigma among psychiatric patients in Indonesia demographic. Methods: Cross-sectional study using a structured questionnaire (self-reported questionnaire) and face to face interviews. A total 280 participants in our psychometric testing for Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) and involves only participant diagnosed with schizophrenia which is total 260 participants to examines construct validity of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Furthermore, after deleting some missing data and outliers total 247 patients were analyzed to measure relationship of severity, self-esteem, self- efficacy and internalized stigma. In addition, we also recruit an extra 30 participants for test-retest reliability through over a-2 weeks period. Study variables included demographic, clinical and psychosocial factor using four questionnaires which are Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Data were collected by using paper-based questionnaires, and analyzed by Independent sample t-test, Pearson correlation, hierarchical multiple linear regression and mediation test was used to test the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between self-efficacy and internalized stigma using SPSS and AMOS 23.0 version. Result: Results show that ISMI has adequate model fits, construct validity of RSES shows adequate and there is significant relationship between severity of psychiatric disorder and self-esteem toward psychiatric patients in Indonesia. Indonesia. Conclusion: Both ISMI and RSES demonstrated good psychometric properties with satisfactory levels of reliability and validity to measure internalized stigma and self-esteem among psychiatric patients in Indonesia. There is significant relationship between severity of psychiatric disorder and self-esteem toward psychiatric patients in Indonesia. Furthermore, self-esteem was fully mediated on the relationship between self-efficacy and internalized stigma. |
