摘要: Title: Use of Measure of Processes of Care (MPOC) to assess parents’ perception of physiotherapy services for children with cerebral palsy in Jordan
    Author: Baraah Odeh
Thesis advised by: Chiung-hsuan Chiu, PhD
Objective: Family-centered care has been acknowledged as the best practice model within pediatric rehabilitation centers. A large body of evidence from previous studies proved the myriad benefits of family-centered care not only for patients and their families but also for healthcare providers. Despite the large number of family-centered care studies conducted in the world, to date the concept of family-centered care is not appreciated enough in health care institutions in Jordan. This study will be the first step towards planning for family-centered care in Jordan by characterizing the family-centered care parameters. It will utilize the Measure of Process of Care (MPOC-56) questionnaire, which is a globally accredited tool for this purpose. This study aims to investigate the current status of family-centered care in Jordan and to determine the major factors that affect the evaluation of family-centered care by healthcare givers.
Method: A purposive sample of 310 families of children (1-18 years old) who have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and have received physiotherapy services from pediatric rehabilitation centers for at least six months will be recruited to complete the Arabic translation of the MPOC-56 and demographic questionnaire. SPSS version 20 was used to analyze the data. Factor analysis was used to identify factors. Independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA were used to examine the hypothesis in this study while multiple regression analysis was used to determine the variables which predict the factors of Arabic translation MPOC (AR MPOC). Approval to conduct the study was granted by the Jordanian government through the Director of Health Services.
Results: Factor analyses of the AR-MPOC-56 yielded a five-factor solution with items loaded differently from the original measure. The factor of ‘Providing Specific Information’ has the lowest average score (2.22±0.80), while the factor ‘Comprehensive and Supportive Care’ has the highest average score (5.44 ±0.86). The Arabic version of the MPOC showed adequate internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha, varying between 0.837 and 0.942. Significant differences were shown between center ownership, child age and educational level of the parents with the factors of AR-MPOC-56.
Conclusion: The Arabic version of the MPOC-56 has good psychometric properties and can apparently be used with Jordanian families of children with cerebral palsy to evaluate the physiotherapy services provided to those children in Jordan. Factor analysis demonstrated that family-centered service (FCS) was not implemented to a high extent in Jordan. Results of our study indicated that parents need more information about their children’s status and available services under the current system.
