    The Cognitions of Medical Professionals on Weight Loss

    摘要: 本研究的主要動機在於了解醫療專業人員對於減重認知的現況,並藉此瞭解醫療專業人員上有補足之處,以作為未來規劃減重專業知識之課程再進修之依據,此外也可以有助於政府對於減重相關政策的制定。受測者主要為臺灣省各縣市領有中華民國醫療專業人員證照者之醫師(n=97)、營養師 (n=186)、護理人員 (n=125)共計 408 名進行減重知識、減重態度、減重治療行為、醫病溝通、相關證照及個人背景資料之問卷調查。本篇之結果,在性別方面以女性居多、年齡方面以 31-40 歲此族群為多,減重知識方面顯示出醫師及營養師對於護理人員在減重知識方面是有統計上的差異 (P<0.05)。而持有肥胖症專科醫師者及體重管理營養師證照者與未持有上述證照者之比較在減重知識方面是沒有統計上的差異 (P>0.05)。而減重知識的答對率醫師為 73.2 % 、營養師為73.2 %、護理人員則為 61.0 %。減重態度、減重治療行為、醫病溝通的回答以同意或非常同意者居多;顯示出醫療專業人員對這些方面多為正面的態度,且有 72.6 %的醫療專業人員表示病患會主動詢問如何減重,而在肥胖症專科醫師及體重管理營養師的證照制度則有 83.2 %的醫療專業人員認為是有必要性的。本篇結論:本研究發現醫療專業人員的減重知識雖然醫師及營養師相較於護理人員為高且有統計差異,但是總體而言答對率並不高,因此本研究之結果可作為提供學術單位辦理課程的依據並且給政府做為參考的依據及相關政策的制定。

    Objectives: This study investigated the attitude and recognition of medical professionals to weight loss, and further to understand insufficient knowledge of weight loss among medical professionals, which can be developed in the professional curriculum for weight loss education and additionally assists the government in establishing policies and regulations of weight management.
    Methods: The subjects who were 408 registered physicians (n=97), dietitians (n=186), and nurses (n=125) in Taiwan, were surveyed by questionnaire regarding their knowledge of weight loss, attitude toward weight loss, treatment behavior to weight loss, doctor-patient communication, relevant professional licenses, and personal background.
    Results: The results showed there were more female respondents than male and with the age group of 31-40 years. There was a statistical difference (P<0.05) in knowledge of weight loss between the physicians or dietitians and nurses. However, with regards to correct knowledge of weight loss, there was no significantly statistical difference (P>0.05) between the physicians with and without the license specialty in obesity as well as dietitians with and without the license specialty in weight management. The rate for correct answer in knowledge of weight loss was 73.2% for the physicians, 73.2% for the dietitians, and 61.0% for the nurses. The majority of the respondents "strongly" or "very strongly" agreed in the attitude toward weight loss, treatment behavior to weight loss, and doctor-patient communication, indicating their positive attitude. There were 72.6% medical professionals who stated that the patients asked them how to lose weight. In addition, 83.2% of the physicians with the license specialty in obesity and dietitians with the license specialty in weight management indicated the necessity of correct knowledge to weight loss among medical professionals.
    Conclusions: This study reveals that although physicians and dietitians have statistical advantage in the knowledge of weight loss compared with the nurses, in terms of the level of correct answers given by either group is not high. Therefore, the results can provide researchers to develop the curriculum for improving knowledge of weight loss among medical professionals, and moreover provide the government for establishing policies and regulations in weight management.
