Abstract: Purpose: To find out the correlation between Alternate Healthy Eating Index for Taiwan (AHEI-T) score and depression of adolescents. Design and Methods: This is a cross-over study. Six hundred and twenty-eight junior high school students in north Taiwan were recruited in 2007. The information of self-reported depression questionnaire and 3-days dietary records (2 weekdays and 1 weekend) was collected. AHEI-T score included nine items and was calculated by 3-days dietary records. The range of AHEI-T score was from 2.5 to 97.5, and higher score mean better dietary quality. Results: Forty-eight subjects completed the study. The AHEI-T score was from 33.2 to 69.1. There was no statistically difference between AHEI-T total score or each item score and self-reported depression condition. Conclusion: We did not find any relationship between the self-reported depression and AHEI-T score in adolescents. Future studies should utilize larger sample size to provide more precise measure of the correlation between AHEI-T and depression.
